I was finally able to see this version of JE; Bertha Mason, the "vampire" madwoman in the attic who is Mr. Rochester's first wife, was played out to look like Erzebet, wild and unkempt, but with striking features, looking younger than her years, which according to the author, are in her early 40s, late 30s, but viscious and deadly. Could Bronte have known Erzebet's story when she locked up the "mad" Bertha in the tower of Thronfield, alone and friendless and presumed insane?
